While the quality of Donald Trump’s presidency can certainly be debated, his ability to provide polarizing, attention grabbing content is undisputed.
After President Trump joined Clay Travis’ Outkick The Coverage on FOX Sports Radio Tuesday morning, media outlets everywhere found a way to repurpose the interview into content of their own. Expectedly, ESPN was among those to join the parade, despite their differences with Travis.
ESPN published a story chock full of quotes from POTUS, but made no mention of Outkick, or its host and founder. Amid praise for landing the interview, Travis justly expressed dissatisfaction with ESPN for using the president’s quotes without properly sourcing their origin.
In ESPN’s more than 1,000 word story featuring at least a half dozen detailed quotes from the president, they did source FOX Sports Radio. And while it’s true the president’s words were heard on FOX Sports Radio, the interview was courtesy of Travis’ brand Outkick The Coverage. Travis is a syndicated host of Premiere Networks of which FOX Sports Radio is a division of.
Outkick and Travis regularly target ESPN in their war on information, triggering a media feud and maybe the reason why his name and brand were not used in The Worldwide Leader’s story. While Travis may attack various media pundits and platforms, he won’t avoid crediting their content.
