Joe Kelly joined his Dodgers teammate Ross Stripling on The Big Swing podcast this week, marking the first time the pitcher has spoken out about his suspension for throwing at multiple Astros players last month.
Kelly has been suspended for five games after initially appealing an 8 game suspension. It officially began earlier this week.
Stripling asked Kelly to describe what he remembered after striking out Carlos Correa and making a face at the Astros’ shortstop.
The pitcher said he remembered “pretty much everything” and when asked to recount the events, Kelly says he was suspended “for doing my job.” His job led to a benches-clearing-brawl. That is what Major League Baseball cited as the reason for the suspension.
“Apparently my words, again, and my cute face that I made enticed an entire team to come out of their dugout. Which is complete bullshit.”
The Big Swing is hosted by Stripling and Cooper Surles. It is part of Jam Street Media. To hear all of what Kelly had to say about his suspension and the first meeting between the Dodges and Astros since the 2017 World Series, click here.
