The financial fallout from the Covid-19 Pandemic has claimed another job in the world of sports media. Mike Yam took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he had been let go by the PAC-12 Network.
Yam was part of the network’s opening day crew. He was on air for the PAC-12 Network’s first broadcast nearly eight years to the day he announced his exit.
“It breaks my heart knowing I won’t be able to work with our on-air team and production crew,” Yam wrote in his Twitter message. “I couldn’t be more proud of what we accomplished and how we grew the last 8 years.”
The PAC-12 voted this week to postpone its football season this fall. Yam did not specifically mention whether or not the lack of college football played a role in the decision, but without any games from the network’s marquee sport, it isn’t a surprise that the PAC-12 Network would be looking to reduce staff.
Yam came to the PAC-12 Network from ESPN. He hosted SportsCenter and the Fantasy Focus Basketball podcast. He also made regular fill-in appearances on ESPN 1050 in New York.
