NBC To Put Tony Dungy In Notre Dame TV Booth

NBC is making a change to its coverage of Notre Dame football. Doug Flutie is out and Super Bowl winning coach Tony Dungy has been named the new color commentator for the broadcast. He will join Mike Tirico in the booth this season. Kathryn Tappen remains as sideline reporter.

As for Flutie, he is headed to the studio. He will join Jac Collinsworth for select weeks according to an NBC press release.

This won’t be Tony Dungy’s first time calling games for NBC. While he is normally in the studio for NFL coverage, the former Buccaneers and Colts coach has called games alongside Tirico on Thanksgiving Day in past years.

It is the 30th year of Notre Dame football airing on NBC, and thanks to the Covid-19 Pandemic, it is one of the most sparse so far. The network will only carry five games, with a sixth airing on the USA Network to make room for NBC’s coverage of the US Open.
