Political Pundit Says NY Times Is Wrong About Need For Debates

A political commentator is pushing back against an assertion by the New York Times that claims that debates aren’t necessary. Patrice Onwuka, of the Independent Women’s Forum, spoke out on Fox and Friends FIRST, hours before the first Presidential debate was set to take place.

The comments came in an Op-ed published Monday. The article said that there’s nothing Trump can say during a debate that would redeem himself. The article also said that he would lie during the debate.

“Absolutely we need debates, and absolutely we need them sooner,” Onwuka said. “One of the big issues is going to be healthcare. When you look at the polls, that is one of the main issues that comes up among voters.”

Onwuka said that Americans deserve to know where Biden stands on Medicare for All and where Trump stands on prescription price transparency.

A new poll released by Monmouth University shows there will be tremendous interest in tonight’s debate moderated by Fox’s Chris Wallace. The poll shows nearly three out of four voters plan to watch the debate.

Onwuka said some of the other big issues on the minds of voters are the economy and the coronavirus.
