Last night’s presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden generated massive amounts of attention. Though viewership was down compared to the 2016 debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton, 73 million people tuned in to watch the two candidates square off.
The debate was especially popular on social media, particularly Twitter where news media personalities on both sides of the aisle were actively engaged in discussion. Though most stayed true to the parties and candidates they identify with, most agreed that the theatrics created before the nation produced a whole lot of fireworks, few solutions, and no clear winner.
The next presidential debate is currently scheduled for Wednesday October 7th. Susan Page is scheduled to moderate the event. We could see a repeat of last night’s affair or political influences could step in and force adjustments to the remaining debate schedule. Only time will tell how the situation plays out.
This story has been updated with Nielsen’s full ratings data. Earlier on Wednesday, the initial viewership numbers were lower.
