Shepard Smith Wants New CNBC Show to be ‘Fact-Based’ with No Political Spin

Shepard Smith made headlines last fall when he announced his abrupt departure from FOX News after nearly two decades. A year later, the host is back with a new show on CNBC, and he hopes to retain some of the same journalistic standards and elements from his FOX show in his new opportunity.

“Our mission, down one lane, is to cut through the noise,” Shepard told The Oregonian. “There’s so much disinformation polluting the discourse. Lies, half-truths and distractions are, I believe, confusing and sometimes injurious to society. We will stay focused on the facts. We’ll add context and perspective and tell it to ’em straight. We won’t tell people how to think.”

Smith garnered a reputation with FOX News viewers for reporting the news without a hard-right lean that viewers of the network were accustomed to. His presentation of stories and opinions that questioned or criticized President Donald Trump singled Shepard out and eventually led to his exit from FOX last October.

“The News with Shepard Smith” airs nightly at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on CNBC and Smith said viewers tuning in can expect strictly news with no panel discussions or punditry to spin a story in one direction or the other.

“We won’t preach or talk down,” he said. “We’ll cover the disturbing news and the news that inspires. We’ll also include some fun stories. We need fun these days!”
