President Donald Trump has appointed radio host Larry Elder to a commission that will examine conditions that affect black men and boys. The commission was signed into law back in August.
“That so many children, particularly black children, are raised without fathers in the home, is our nation’s most pressing domestic problem,” Elder said.
The bipartisan Commission will recommend policies to improve current government programs. The group includes members of Congress and other area experts.
“We need to ask ourselves if we are incentivizing women to marry the government and if we are incentivizing men to abandon their financial and moral responsibility,” Elder said. “President Barack Obama said that a child raised without a father in the home is five times more likely to be poor and commit crime, nine times more likely to drop out of school and 20 times more likely to end up in jail.”
The commission will produce an annual report which will be sent to Congress.
