HBO Drops Trailer For Tiger Woods Doc

Shortly after Tiger Woods teed off his opening round of The Masters Thursday morning, HBO released a minute-long preview for their upcoming two-part documentary Tiger

The trailer begins with a young Tiger striking a tee shot and spinning around like a helicopter, highlighting the innocence and enthusiasm of a child. Tiger’s father Earl Woods follows, speaking at a microphone, “Please forgive me, but sometimes I get very emotional talking about my son,” he says.

“He will transcend this game. And bring to the world a humanitarianism, which has never been known before,” continues Earl, who died in 2006.

A montage of video footage flashes through the highs and lows of Tiger’s career, properly depicting him as one of the most polarizing figures in sports history. Based on the book Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian, the HBO documentary will feature never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews with Nick Faldo, former caddie Steve Williams and mistress Rachel Uchitel.

The HBO doc featuring Tiger was announced shortly after The Last Dance docuseries concluded on ESPN. After Michael Jordan’s story was told, Tiger topped the list of other athletes who would generate similar interest with a documentary of their own. Originally expected to be released in 2020, HBO confirmed Tiger will instead premiere Jan. 2021.
