Vice President – elect Kamala Harris named Symone Sanders senior advisor and chief spokesperson last week. The outspoken Sanders has made a name for herself going head-to-head with pundits and critics leading up to the 2020 election.
The Omaha native previously served as a senior advisor for Joe Biden’s campaign. RT America host Steve Malzberg believes that Sanders could end up being named Biden’s press secretary.
“But that position has gone to Jen Psaki so Miss Sanders will have to settle for a role with a much lower profile, chief spokesperson and senior advisor to Kamala Harris,” said Malzberg.
Malzberg questioned whether Sanders will be able to maintain a “lower profile” given her penchant for past dramatic on-screen confrontations. Sanders is known for her ability to stand her ground.
During a 2015 meeting with the press, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders became irritated when reporters asked him why his press secretary, then Symone Sanders, told them that they could not ask about ISIS. Sanders took questions exclusively from the local media during the presser.
“Alright, what about ISIS, guys?” Sanders said. “How often do these people talk about issues that we talked about today? Of course, I will talk about ISIS. But today what we’re talking about is we’re talking about a community where half of the people don’t have jobs. We’re talking about a community in which there are hundreds of buildings that are uninhabitable.”
Malzberg cited several examples of how Sanders can “turn up the on-screen temperature.” During a panel discussion on CNN with Kenneth Cuccinelli, President Senate Conservatives Fund, she shouted at Cuccinelli who became so frustrated with her tenacity that he told her to “shut up.” Sanders shouted back, “you don’t get to tell me to shut up on national television.”
Malzberg said what prompted him to highlight Harris’ selection of Sanders was what she said shortly after the election in 2016. “In my opinion we don’t need white people leading the Democratic party right now,” said Sanders. Malzberg called Sanders’ statement “racist.”
