Pat McAfee Doesn’t Mind Colin Cowherd Questioning His Journalistic Integrity

Colin Cowherd took what could be considered a shot at Pat McAfee on Wednesday’s edition of The Herd. In discussing Aaron Rodgers, Cowherd said that the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback likes going on McAfee’s SiriusXM show because he knows McAfee will not ask him hard questions.

McAfee responded to that accusation with tongue planted firmly in cheek, saying that he has never thought of himself as a journalist and the same goes for most of his show’s staff.

“I am not a journalist and thank God for that. But I can respect people that are,” McAfee said “The Jeff Passans, the Colin Cowherds. I respect that job. I can exist in a similar space as you, but it’s much different.”

Wednesday McAfee joked that while elite journalism schools did initially show interest in him as a football player, most of them backed away once they saw his grades. He said that Northwestern compared his low grades to his high SAT score and said it showed admissions officers that McAfee was “academically lazy”.

“What I’m saying is, I haven’s finished my journalism degree yet, but I’m gonna try my best, Colin. And I will cross-examine Aaron next time I talk to him,” McAfee said at the end of the segment on Wednesday.

Rodgers made regular appearances on McAfee’s show on SiriusXM throughout the football season. McAfee would ask a number of football questions but often the conversations would be derailed by questions about movies, Rodgers’s celebrity friendships, and food.

During the visits, Rodgers also was not shy about his feelings towards more traditional media types, saying that he preferred the regular visits with McAfee and former Packers teammate AJ Hawk to talking to reporters or going on other sports talk shows.

“What it’s allowed me to do is silence all the douchebags out there who are talking for me and either making themselves more relevant by using my name or running with stories that were not really based on any type of fact,” the presumed MVP said during his visit to the show on Tuesday. “And look, I’ve grown as a person and I’ve said things and done things I wish I’d handled a little better, but this was a great natural, authentic — whatever.”
