The second impeachment of former President Donald Trump reached its conclusion as he was once again acquitted.
As a result, the Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote a blistering column stating that although the Senate voted to acquit Trump, “he won’t win another national election.”
Furthermore, the column argued that Trump is not the sole person responsible for the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Noting that some have questioned D.C.’s lack of security. Nevertheless, the board concluded that Trump should be entirely blamed for “refusing for hours to ask his supporters to stand down.”
“Mr. Trump’s Jan. 6 early-afternoon comments to House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy dismissing a plea to call off the rioters, as related second-hand by GOP Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, are further evidence of Mr. Trump’s dereliction,” the board stated. Finally, the board concluded its piece by applauding the seven Republican senators who strayed from the majority of their party and voted to convict the former president.
