MSNBC host Joe Scarborough blasted his cable news competitors Tuesday for comparing last month’s violence at the U.S. Capitol to the BLM riots that took place last spring.
The Morning Joe host warned that we need to guard against compromising democracy like it was on Jan 6. “I know there are idiots on other cable news channels that will say, ‘well, this mom-and-pop store was vandalized during the summer riots, and that’s just as bad as the United States Capitol being vandalized.’ No. No, actually no, jackasses, it’s not.”
Scarborough did not name the network or the host he was referring to but there are only a handful of cable news hosts that continue to compare the BLM incidents to those at the Capitol building.
“The Capitol of the United States is the center of American democracy,” he said. “While I am a fierce believer in people’s right to defend their private property, I’m not going to confuse a taco stand with the United States Capitol.”
The storming of the US Capitol last month left five people dead, over 100 police officers injured and millions of dollars in damage to the building. A month-long search for offenders has resulted in charges against a reported 221 people.
The arson and vandalism that took place in 140 U.S. cities this spring after the George Floyd death, resulted in at least $1 billion to $2 billion of paid insurance claims.
