Black News Channel CEO Optimistic About Network’s Potential

The chief executive of the Black News Channel (BNC) is speaking out about the future of the network and an overhaul to its talent lineup. Princell Hair believes the network has an opportunity to provide coverage that does not exist.

Hair told the Wall Street Journal that there is a news void in the Black and brown communities that needs to be filled.

“We’re standing on the forefront of a tremendous opportunity when you look at the stories of the past year,” said Hair. “The pandemic, the George Floyd murder and the ensuing civil unrest, a very contentious presidential election, record unemployment, and all of these stories disproportionately impact Black and brown communities.”

Over the last seven months, BNC has given millions more people the opportunity to view the network by striking deals with Comcast Corp.’s Xfinity, AT&T Inc.’s DirecTV, Dish Network Corp.

The Black News Network also signed high-profile commentators Charles Blow and Marc Lamont Hill.

Significant program changes will go into effect in March with a new morning show called Start Your Day with Sharon and Mike featuring Sharon Reed and Fox Sports personality Mike Hill.

The show will feature segments on social justice, personal health, and economic wellness in the Black community.

The network is backed by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who also owns Fulham F.C. of the English Premier League.
