In celebration of International Women’s Day, the host’s of ESPN’s First Take Her Take took over the 5pm ET hour of Chiney & Golic Jr. Monday evening.
The hour gave ESPN Radio’s national audience a chance to hear three prominent women in sports and sample their weekly podcast. ESPN’s Charly Arnolt, Kimberley A. Martin and Chiney Ogwumike are the hosts of the recently launched First Take Her Take which debuted in January. The podcast goes beyond the world of sports, as the trio delves into discussions about their personal lives and more. Ogwumike is also the co-host of Chiney & Golic Jr, ESPN Radio’s weekday afternoon show.
The takeover coincided with ESPN’s continued celebration of Women’s History Month which will see the First Take Her Take hosts regularly join Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman, and Molly Qerim on First Take throughout March.
It will be interesting to see if this is a tactic ESPN uses to promote some of their other podcasts going forward. It might not be a bad idea to put Bomani Jones back on terrestrial radio for an occasional hour, Katie Nolan, Marty Smith and other ESPN podcast hosts could similarly benefit from promoting their show to a new audience.
