ESPN is holding on to Marly Rivera. The network’s MLB National Reporter has inked a multi-year extension to continue serving as a reporter on ESPN’s national weeknight MLB game telecasts and appearing on studio shows including SportsCenter. Rivera will also contribute to ESPN Radio, the network’s digital platforms and podcasts, and remain involved with ESPN’s international programming.
“I am grateful to ESPN, and particularly to Norby Williamson, Jill Frederickson and Freddy Rolón, for all of their support through the years, and for providing such an important platform to show my strengths as a reporter,” Rivera said in a company press release. “I very much look forward to expanding my role and visibility within the company, and continuing to grow bilingual baseball coverage across all ESPN platforms.”
An ESPN employee since 2011, Rivera has earned attention and respect for her access to baseball players and her coverage of the league’s teams. She has been a key reporter for ESPN’s 2021 spring training coverage, and has reported on a number of important MLB events including the 2015 “Roberto Clemente Day”, and the historic 2016 exhibition game in Havana, Cuba.
