Rachel Maddow Wins a Grammy

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow won a Grammy Award for her most recent book’s audiobook recording titled “Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth.”

For her part in recording the audiobook, Maddow won the award in the Best Spoken Word Album category. The other nominations for this award were musician Flea, “Jeopardy!” star Ken Jennings, reporter Ronan Farrow and actress Meryl Streep.

“wait, what?” Maddow tweeted upon finding out that she won the award. Maddow received the award before the start of the annual awards show.

Last month, Maddow commented on receiving the nomination on an appearance on DeGeneres’s show; however, judging by her statement, she didn’t expect to win.

“It’s really good news, bad news sort of thing. The good news is you’ve been nominated for a Grammy,” Maddow said. “The bad news is Meryl Streep is also nominated in the same category. So it at least takes away the suspense, right? I don’t have to worry that there’s any threat of winning.”

Meanwhile, Ken Jennings congratulated Maddow on Twitter after learning about the announcement. “I lost a Grammy to Rachel Maddow. But as problems go, that’s a pretty good one to have,” Jennings tweeted.
