The HuffPost has a new leader as the media outlet embarks on this new venture since BuzzFeed purchased it from Verizon Media. Danielle Belton is the new editor-in-chief of HuffPost, a position that’s been vacant for a year, per The Hill.
HuffPost’s previous editor-in-chief Lydia Polgreen left the company last year to join podcast company Gimlet. As for Belton, she currently serves as the is editor-in-chief of The Root, a Black-focused news and culture media brand which G/O Media owns.
BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti shared the news of Belton’s hiring in an internal memo.
“I wanted to share some exciting news with you,” Peretti wrote. “To be totally transparent — we were going to announce this tomorrow but are accelerating plans because we have a leak. I’m pleased to announce that Danielle Belton is the new Editor-in-Chief of HuffPost.”
This latest announcement comes after BuzzFeed recently laid off 47 staffers in the U.S., closed its Canadian newsroom.
