Steve Kornacki is not, by training, a sportscaster. That hasn’t stopped NBC from using the MSNBC personality on its sports properties. The network will do it again during Saturday’s running of the Kentucky Derby.
Dubbed the “Chart-throb” by MSNBC viewers, Kornacki has become something of a sensation for the way he uses his “big board” to give in-depth breakdowns of election results. He will use that same board on Saturday to examine the strengths and weaknesses of the Kentucky Derby field. He said in a press release that he thinks gamblers will see why his inclusion makes sense.
“The parallel I kind of see here to what I do with elections and with political numbers, kind of in general, really does have to do with watching the odds change, watching where the odds are moving during the course of the day and the run-up to the race. Who suddenly is getting a lot of support? Who looked like one of the favorites early on, but the public maybe is backing away from?”
Steve Kornacki was first used by NBC Sports after the 2020 election. He appeared on Football Night in America in December, using his board to breakdown teams’ playoff chances.
