According to The Los Angeles Times, Jeff Zucker, CNN’s President, might have to
continue with his role longer than he planned now that the network’s parent company
WarnerMedia is merging with Discovery.
Zucker had initially planned to stay at his position for the remainder of 2021, but these
merger conversations could see him remain past his initial departure date.
Recently, AT&T announced it is merging WarnerMedia with Discovery Inc. to construct
a new but unnamed public company with Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav as its head.
With Zucker and Zaslav being friends, The Times states that there’s a possibility that
Zucker changes his mind if Zaslav does end up leading the new company.
“It seems like Zucker might stick around longer under Zaslav,” Scott Robson, a research
analyst with S&P Global Market Intelligence, said. “It seems like Zucker might stick
around longer under Zaslav. There is potential to fortify CNN’s international brand by
utilizing the Discovery international news assets.”
WarnerMedia nor Discovery didn’t respond to requests for comment from The Hill
regarding CNN’s future.
