Next time you fly overseas, LeBron James and Kevin Durant may be coming along for the ride. Two airlines announced today that they will begin offering NBA League Pass on their international flights.
American and JetBlue will use Viasat high speed satellite technology in order to make live and archived games available to fans. A Viasat spokeswoman says she expects the service to be available in time for fans to watch this year’s playoffs while flying with the two companies.
Both airlines have done deals with Viasat before in order to make highly popular streaming content available to passengers. JetBlue travelers have access to Amazon Prime, while Viasat-equipped planes in the American fleet have access to Apple Music.
There are restrictions on where NBA games can be viewed. No domestic flights in the US will have NBA League Pass. It also will not be available to flights traveling to Canada or China. Viasat says that is due to a licensing rights issue with the NBA.
