KFI’s John and Ken Weigh in on LA School Plans for Fall

A pair of Los Angeles radio hosts criticized the teacher’s union Monday for making demands that students maintain social distancing protocols when they return to school in the fall.

The reaction from KFI’s John and Ken came hours after the Los Angeles Unified School District announced plans to fully reopen classrooms for in-person learning in the fall.

“For God sakes,” screamed John Kobylt. “Do they not think the vaccine works?”

Joining the conversation KFI reporter Kris Ankarlo added that a lot of the ULTA’s attitude on the upcoming opening will shift based on the number of cases and subsequent deaths.

“Right now, it’s tough to gauge because the teachers that I talk to say that the stretch that we are in is exhausting in a very different way.”

Superintendent Austin Beutner announced the plan during a Monday morning briefing. Students who are unable to or choose not to attend in-person instruction will be offered an online option.

Kobylt added that children who began the pandemic in the third grade and are technically now fifth graders will fall behind by virtue of a lack of understanding in the curriculum.

“You are hitting the biggest question facing America, not just LA,” said Ankarlo. “You have an entire generation of students that have basically had a gap year.”

School campuses, which closed due to the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, began reopening again this spring on a limited or hybrid digital basis with rigorous safety standards in place, as well as a COVID-19 testing program. Vaccines are available for eligible students.
