A former project manager from Indianapolis public radio station WFYI has been hired to run a news hub in the Midwest.
Holly Edgell has been tapped to run a unique collaborative newsroom comprised of public radio stations in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska.
KCUR in Kansas City, Missouri is spearheading the effort. The team of journalists will focus on investigative reporting. The Midwest newsroom will become the fourth such hub created by NPR and its Member stations.
“We are thrilled to have had such a strong pool of candidates and delighted that Holly will be joining the Midwest Newsroom as a KCUR employee,” Sarah Morris, general manager of KCUR said. “Holly has extensive leadership in working with newsrooms across the Midwest and beyond and will help to form and create a highly functional and collaborative team for the hub.”
The Midwest news hub will include three reporters and two editors. NPR believes the four-state collaboration will fill the need in communities across many rural markets that lack options for local news reporting.
“We’re excited to see Holly join our team of stellar managing editors leading the hub newsrooms across the country,” NPR Managing Editor for Collaborative Journalism Kenya Young said. “Holly has extensive leadership in working with newsrooms across the Midwest.”
