Former President Donald Trump Launches Social Media Platform

For months we have been hearing about former President Donald Trump resurfacing on an alternative social media platform that is not run by Big Tech tyrants.

Thursday, Trump’s team announced the launch of GETTR, which pledges to fight the cancel culture, promote common sense, defend free speech, and challenge social media monopolies.

Right now, it is unclear how involved the former president is with the project. According toPolticoTrump’s former spokesman, Jason Miller, is leading the platform. Former campaign spokesperson, Tim Murtaugh is involved as a consultant.

“The former president is going to make his own decision, it’s certainly there and ready for him should he make the decision — we would welcome that. There is an account reserved for him and waiting for him but that’s a decision for him to make,” said a person involved with the app.

On Jan. 8, Twitter announced the permanent suspension of former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account, citing two tweets posted after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. A day earlier, Facebook said Trump was banned for two years.

The GETTR app first went live on the Google and Apple app stores in mid-June and was most recently updated Wednesday. It has been downloaded more than one thousand times on each, according to the report.
