Craig Wolfley is getting a promotion. iHeartMedia announced today that he will move from the sidelines to the booth for Pittsburgh Steelers’ radio broadcasts. The analyst role was left vacant in June when Tunch Ilkin retired as a result of his battle with ALS.
“This is an incredible honor knowing the people who proceeded me in this seat and a lineage I hope I do justice to,” Wolfley, a former offensive lineman for the team, said. “I’m looking forward to working with an incredible team on Steelers broadcasts.”
Wolfley will join Bill Hillgrove in the booth. That means the team is also getting a new sideline reporter.
Fellow former Steelers offensive lineman Max Starks will fill that role. It is a return to the team for Starks, who most recently has been a sideline analyst on Westwood One NFL broadcasts.
“I am honored to be back on the Steelers sideline once again,” he said. “I’ve traded in my helmet for a headset, and I’m excited to join the Steelers Radio Network and keep the Lineman tradition alive on the broadcasts!”
Wolfley and Starks will have another project this season. The duo will host a show on iHeart’s ESPN 970 in Pittsburgh. In the Locker Room will air both on that station and on the Steelers Nation Radio digital network.
