Despite the delta-plus coronavirus variant surging in the United States, and Florida dealing with record Covid-19 hospitalizations, the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, has banned mask mandates.
With DeSantis sticking by this decision, it’s led to criticism from various media members, including remarks from “The View’s” Joy Behar, who’s livid about the governor’s choice.
The discussion began with Whoopi Goldberg voicing her confusion over DeSantis’ ban on mask mandates. Behar would step in and rip the Florida governor for continuing to stick by his decision not to tell his citizens to mask up as the delta variant surges in the state.
“You’re just short of calling him a negligent, homicidal sociopath. Because that’s what he is. This guy — first of all, wasn’t he popular just a little while ago, silencing critics, no mandates for anything, covering up data, rescinding mask mandates? And now, 10,000 new cases yesterday, of COVID,” Behar said.
“87 percent increase in kids under 12. And then this sociopath, this dangerous criminal, he tells schools that they will rescind funding if they insist upon a mask mandate.”
“The View” co-host went speculated on DeSantis’ reasoning for his decision to stick with this ban, declaring that the governor is putting lives at risk only to better the longevity of his political career.
“I mean, what is he doing? What is he doing?” Behar said. “He’s risking the lives of children, children’s parents, their grandparents, anyone they may come in contact with so that he can appeal to his white supremacist base and continue in his career and get re-elected?”
