It’s Jamie Samuelsen Night at Comerica Park on Tuesday. The Detroit Tigers have set aside a special section of seats in honor of the late morning man on 97.1 The Ticket.
Samuelsen died last summer at age 48 after battling colon cancer. Tickets in section 114 are priced at $37. That price includes a $5 donation to provide colonoscopies for the uninsured and underprivileged.
The evening will also include a public celebration of Jamie Samuelsen. Starting at 4 pm, 97.1 The Ticket and the Tigers will host a party at Tin Roof on East Adams Street across from the ballpark. Samuelsen’s widow Christy McDonald will be there and is asking friends and fans to come by and share memories of her husband.
“We are humbled by the Detroit Tigers & 97.1 The Ticket teaming up to honor and celebrate Jamie’s life and memory with a night at the ballpark,” McDonald posted on social media. “Not only do we get to hang out in the same cheering section and enjoy a beautiful summer night at a game, but part of the ticket proceeds will go to free colonoscopies in underinsured communities around Detroit.”
There is a very real chance that this could be an extra special night for Tigers fans. In addition to celebrating a local radio favorite, they could see Miguel Cabrera hit his 500th career home run. Miggy comes into the game sitting on 499 all-time.
