Bishop Sycamore has been the subject of jokes on social media and deep-dive investigations across the internet.
The school (or maybe fake school) conned its way into a football game against Florida powerhouse IMG Academy, which was broadcast live on ESPN. Anish Shroff and Tom Luginbill, who called the game, were flabbergasted by the disparity between what the network was told Bishop Sycamore was versus what they were seeing on the field. Surely a school that boasted double-digit division 1 prospects shouldn’t have to share helmets and jerseys. Surely, they should be able to keep the score closer than the 58-0 final score. This couldn’t be real.
Well, again, at this point we can only say that Bishop Sycamore is allegedly not a legit school. The name, which sounds more like it belongs to magic tree from an animated movie than to an actual person, should have been a dead giveaway.
It is worth noting all that we have learned in the meantime. That includes the fact that Bishop Sycamore had a different name just a few years ago. The football team’s roster includes men in their 20s and other players that have already completed high school. It was enough for the governor of Ohio to launch an investigation into the football program and the school itself.
Whatever comes of any investigation be damned. This is the internet and we are here for the jokes! Celebrities from across the sports media took to social media with comments and memes blasting the school, its coaches, and ESPN.
The NFL Network even put together a comedy bit at the expense of the school. DK Metcalf got in on the fun.
Barstool Sports in particular has loaded its Twitter feed with Bishop Sycamore content.
