Angelo Cataldi Says Announcement On His Future At WIP Coming

If Marc Farzetta had not left WIP for 97.5 The Fanatic, Angelo Cataldi says he would be retired by now. Is he about to tell his listeners that now is the time?

Cataldi is an institution in morning drive in Philadelphia. On Friday, he told listeners “I will have an announcement on my future no later than mid-October.”

Listeners and industry professionals will certainly speculate until Angelo Cataldi is ready to make his news public. He says that a decision is already made, but he is waiting to meet with Rod Lakin before he says anything publicly. Lakin starts as WIP’s new program director on Monday.

“I’m going to sit down with him and plan what day to announce my announcement. It will be within the first two weeks he’s here,” Cataldi said. “One of the reasons I want to do it then is so nobody thinks my announcement has anything to do with who the new guy is.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer asked Cataldi for a comment. He did not respond.

Angelo Cataldi is 70 years old. Retirement seems likely, but until we know for sure, all anyone can do is speculate. Similarly, if Cataldi is indeed ready to call it quits, all anyone can do is speculate as to what the future holds for WIP in morning drive. But, he has offered a few ideas in the past.

“Our midday guys [Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie] are highly capable of moving to the morning. Our afternoon guys [Jon Marks and Ike Reese], if they want really lousy hours, could definitely do the job, too,” Cataldi told The Inquirer in 2019. “Joe Giglio is a regular on my show. He’s really got down the whole provocateur thing. He’s great at that. I’ve been working with Jon Johnson as a replacement when I’m not there because I really like the way he does things. I think he has great potential.”

For now, all we can do is wait and listen.
