Ken Singleton Delivers Emotional Goodbye To Michael Kay

Ken Singleton has called his final game for the New York Yankees. During the spring, the YES Network analyst announced his retirement would come at the end of the regular season. His final assignment was Sunday afternoon in the Yankees’ loss to Tampa Bay.

During the broadcast, Singleton turned the spotlight on Michael Kay. He delivered an emotional and personal goodbye to the YES Network’s play-by-play man.

“I can’t overestimate what it’s meant to work with you all these years, Michael,” Ken Singleton said. “Our job is to inform and entertain, and there’s nobody more informative than you. Nobody. And as far as entertaining, we’ve laughed at each other’s dumb jokes over the years. Hopefully, people out there thought they were funny. If not? Well, you can get a sense of humor just about everywhere.”

Kay was noticeably moved. Singleton went on to thank the fans that had watched and supported him as well.

Ken Singleton announced in 2018 that he was ready to retire. He changed his mind at season’s end and stuck around for three more seasons, calling a significantly reduced schedule. Saturday’s farewell came with a greater sense of finality from the now 73-year-old.

Once the game ended, two of Singleton’s media colleagues took to Twitter with praise for both his baseball career and his time in the booth.
