Washington State University fired football coach Nick Rolovich and several assistants on Monday for not complying with The Evergreen State’s vaccine mandate for public employees.
There was no shortage of sports media members taking to Twitter to let their followers know that they had confirmed the news. The first was syndicated sports talker John Canzano, who also writes for The Oregonian.
Canzano was not the first to report the news though. Awful Announcing points out that a former NFL coach actually broke the news. Mike Tice was the first to report that Rolovich was out of a job.
There are a lot of possible explanations here. One is that Tice was told the news by someone close to either Rolovich or Washington State before the news became public. Another is that he isn’t as careful with his language as a professional reporter is.
Mike Tice hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2017. The account he tweeted the news about Nick Rolovich from is used to promote his podcast, which has not dropped a new episode in a month.
