Bob Call is set to call it a career. The leader of Bonneville’s Denver cluster will stay in place until the end of the year.
His career began on the East Coast 52 years ago. Call started as a programmer before moving into management. He arrived in Denver in 1980 to serve as operations manager of Jefferson Pilot Communications. He was elevated to Senior Vice President and General Manager of the cluster in 1989 after the cluster was purchased by Lincoln Financial Media.
“I’ve wanted to be in radio since I got a tour of a radio station as an eight-year-old Cub Scout. It’s been a dream come true,” Bob Call said in a press release. “I am grateful for the support of my family, colleagues and friends over the decades. I want to thank Darrell Brown for his inspiring leadership, and the outstanding team at Bonneville Denver for the great work they do every day.”
Call oversaw the launch of The Fan in 1995, when KYGO-AM switched from country to sports talk. It moved to 104.3 FM in 2008 and has become the city’s dominant sports radio brand. The station continued its streak of ratings book wins this past summer.
With Call’s impending retirement, two major markets in Bonneville’s portfolio are looking for market managers. Scott Sutherland’s promotion to EVP/Regional Media Operations has created a market manager opening in Phoenix as well.
