Two years ago, the Republican Party of Kentucky filed a complaint against Matt Jones. The Kentucky Sports Radio host was taken off the air in response. Now, two years later, the Federal Elections Commission has dropped the complaint entirely.
At the time, Jones said publicly that he was considering running as a Democrat for the Senate seat occupied by Mitch McConnell. The Republican Party of Kentucky had claimed Jones’ radio show and his book, Mitch Please, violated federal rules of accepting prohibited corporate contributions.
A vote was taken last month. In a 6-0 vote, the Federal Elections Commission determined that the complaint had no merit and it was dropped.
Jones tweeted that given all of the press this generated at the time, he wished more people were paying attention to his exoneration.
FOX 56 in Lexington reached out to the state’s Republican Party for comment but was declined.
