The New York Times latest documentary for FX and Hulu will center around the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show and the famous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
According to Deadline, the documentary “Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson,” airing on November 19th, dives into what occurred that night and the fall out from the incident and CBS boss Les Moonves’s role in it.
The film also spotlights how Jackson’s career never recovered from the incident. Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake went on to stardom as he came out not having the event affect him, which is why it examines the racial and cultural currents that collided on the Super Bowl stage.
Furthermore, it also examines how the incident affected one of the most successful pop musicians in history. The documentary includes rare footage and interviews with numerous people at the control center that night in Houston.
The Times spoke with NFL and MTV executives to reconstruct the incident that rocked the country and describe how it molded culture in the decades to follow.
