Steve Holman Elected To Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

Atlanta basketball fans cannot imagine a Hawks game without the voice of Steve Holman. He has called the team’s games for the last 37 years. It is a feat that the voters deemed worthy of induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

Holman told the Newnan Times Herald that the news was “the greatest honor of my life.”

His broadcasting career began in the early 1970s. He started as a broadcasting assistant to Johnny Most with the Boston Celtics. He first called a game in 1976 when Most had become ill.

Steve Holman came to Atlanta in 1980. His first job in the city was calling Atlanta Falcons football and Atlanta Chiefs soccer.

Only Chick Hearn has called more consecutive NBA games on the radio than Holman. He has called the last 2747 Hawks games. Hearn’s record with the Lakers stands at 3338 games.

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame will welcome its class of 2022 in February.
