Fresno will be losing a long-time face on CBS47 as anchor Ken Malloy announced his retirement, with his last day coming next week on the 24th.
Malloy has spent the last 17-years at the CBS affiliate, serving as the primary anchor for the evening and nightly news.
The anchor has spent 38 years in the industry and has been a staple in Fresno news coverage since 2004. However, before arriving in the Central Valley, Malloy spent time in four other markets, including 11 years in Dallas.
“I want to thank God for his peace, providence, protection, and provision,” Malloy wrote. “Because of His blessings I am able to walk away from broadcasting with an attitude of gratitude. … I also want to thank everyone who has helped me over the years, including family, friends, colleagues, and loyal viewers.”
“As a local journalist, I have always strived to be a neutral and transparent conduit to tell the stories of others. I was taught context, balance, and objectivity. I was also taught to never make the story about me.”
Malloy plans to move back to Texas and enjoy his retirement years but admits he isn’t exactly sure how he’ll spend life now that his career is over.
“For me, it’s time to write a new story — a new chapter, “Malloy wrote. “I’m not entirely sure what that will look like. … I believe for the most part, we write our own stories in life. It’s my hope and prayer that with God’s blessing, you will continue to pursue your purpose-driven life — and be the hero of your own story.”
