“Enthusiastic” isn’t a word you hear used to describe Bill Belichick very often. Then again, very few people take the time to ask the Patriots coach about his feelings on Thanksgiving dinner. That is what makes The Greg Hill Show different.
Belichick is a guest on WEEI’s morning show every Monday. The interview is usually not much different from his other media availability. The coach keeps his answers short and he remains mostly monotone.
This week, Hill asked him about Thanksgiving dinner and Bill Belichick brought strong opinions. He said that if he could only have one side dish at Thanksgiving, he is going to make sure it is a potato.
“It would be hard for me to turn down any type of potatoes,” the coach said. “I’ll go with whatever. Mashed potatoes, scalloped, or, you know, baked, or however they’re made.”
“Load em up” he declared as the hosts listed other potential potato side dishes. When co-host Jermain Wiggins suggested adding sour cream and bacon to mashed potatoes, Belichick said he would take the spuds however they are presented to him.
“Throw some butter on there and just starch me up.”
Sure, it’s fun to think that it was the idea of mashed potatoes that put Bill Belichick in a great mood. In reality though, it probably has at least a little something to do with the fact that the Patriots are back on top off the AFC East for the first time since parting ways with Tom Brady.
