Michael Smerconish to Fill-In Chris Cuomo Timeslot This Week

CNN needs someone to fill the time slot occupied by former anchor Chris Cuomo. This past weekend, the network decided to part ways with Cuomo, following the details of how involved he was in his brother’s, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, sexual harassment case.

However, before parting ways with Cuomo, who was on temporary suspension at the time, a CNN spokesperson announced that Michael Smerconish would be filling in this week for the timeslot.

Smerconish is a seasoned media veteran as he’s a popular radio host and also leads a Saturday-morning hour on CNN.

It will be interesting to see if Smerconish decides to be the temporary host for the time slot as CNN ponders what to do long-term or if the network has someone else in mind for a stopgap solution.

Cuomo provided a statement on being terminated by the company over the weekend.

“This is not how I want my time at CNN to end, but I have already told why and how I helped my brother,” Cuomo said.

“So now let me say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”
