After five years as a White House correspondent for Univision, Janet Rodríguez has resigned from the network. Media Moves reports that she quit her position last week and will be leaving the news media industry.
The report further details that Rodríguez will be heading to the corporate world, taking over the communications job at Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms.
“I leave the industry full of gratitude, having covered some of the biggest local and national stories of the past 15 years,” Rodríguez said.
“Now my professional growth will continue in a very exciting industry, with a position that will challenge me but that also aligns with my current priorities of spending more time with my family and young child.”
Beginning in early January, she’ll become the internal communications manager for WhatsApp. Rodríguez departs a career in news media that includes a three-year stint as a Telemundo Network correspondent in Chicago.
Last October, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook as a company would be changing its name to Meta as a reflection of its growing focus on the metaverse.
“From now on, we’re going to be the metaverse first, not Facebook first,” Zuckerberg said. “Our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything we’re doing today, let alone the future.”
