D.C. Officer Michael Fanone Joins CNN as a Contributor

Michael Fanone, the D.C. police officer who was hauled into the mob during the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, handed in his resignation from the force, which goes into effect on December 31st.

The 41-year-old officer will leave his post and join CNN as a contributor, where he’ll discuss law enforcement issues on the network, a spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Post

“Clearly, there are some members of our department who feel their oath is to Donald Trump and not to the Constitution,” Fanone said. “I no longer felt like I could trust my fellow officers and decided it was time to make a change.”

CNN’s Brian Stelter elaborated more on the news stating that Fanone will begin his position with the network in January. Since the incident nearly a year ago, the soon-to-be-former officer has made appearances on outlets like CNN and MSNBC.

A spokeswoman for D.C. police stated the department would not comment on Fanone’s resignation. Furthermore, the office of Mayor Muriel E. Bowser did not reply to a request for a statement.
