This week marked the return to reality for most Americans, with the holidays now in the rearview, which means more traffic and dealing with the winter weather that sticks around.
On Tuesday morning, there was a traffic jam on I-95 in Virginia, affecting drivers on the highway for the better part of 24 hours.
One of the drivers stuck in traffic was NBC News’ Josh Lederman, who called into MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” The White House and national security reporter explain what it was like to be stuck in his car for 10 hours.
“This has been a pretty insane and fairly dystopian experience. I was headed back to D.C. last night,” Lederman said. “GPS said I’d get back around 5:15. At about 7:15, with several delays, it was looking pretty bad on the roads, and by 7:30, we were just at a standstill and have been at a standstill ever since.”
“It’s been 26 degrees outside, and nobody knows how long we’re going to be here or how we’re going to get out. So people — once it got into about five hours that people were stuck in their cars — started turning their cars off.”
Lederman elaborated that this traffic jam was due to the winter weather that hit the Washington D.C. area. Nonetheless, the NBC News report wasn’t alone in his car, as he had his dog, Jonas, who stole the interview during another interview with the “Today” show.
“For those asking: His name is Jonas, he’s a 5-year-old rescue, and he’s a Very Good Boy,” Lederman tweeted. “We snuggled and kept each other warm as the temps dropped to 26.”
