LeRoy Butler Shares Hall of Fame Joy with 1250 AM The Fan Colleagues

How many sports radio stations and shows boast a Pro Football Hall of Famer among their hosts?

Milwaukee’s 1250 AM The Fan can now do so after former Green Bay Packers safety LeRoy Butler was named to the 2022 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Butler joins offensive lineman Tony Boselli, linebacker Sam Mills, defensive lineman Richard Seymour and Bryant Young, and coach Dick Vermeil among those who will be inducted into Canton this August.

Yet Butler is also a sports radio host, part of 1250 AM’s The Wendy’s Big Show with Steve Fifer and fellow former Packer Gary Ellerson. Any member of the local NFL team and Hall of Famer would be a welcome interview. But someone who’s a radio colleague?

Butler joined The Bart Winkler Show Friday morning for the good news and to share how he found out he was getting a bust in Canton.

“I hear this BANG! on the door and was like, who is that?” Butler recalled. “I look out the peephole, and you know you can only see one person and I see [Charles] Woodson. I say, what in the world? Woodson? It was like 11 degrees so I open the door and step outside. I had no shoes on.”

“I’m just so fortunate to have one of the best fanbases, especially the callers,” Butler added. “And I appreciate them because there’s people listening to you every single day in Milwaukee. I just appreciate those people because they give you the platform to have fun. The fans are great.”

Winkler complimented Butler on being so approachable, not just with fans but with colleagues and staff at 1250 AM The Fan. Especially with fans like Winkler who watched Butler when they were younger and idolized him, Brett Favre, and Reggie White.

As Butler mentioned, you’ll be able to see the Hall of Fame class of 2022 find out about their selections on an NFL Network special Saturday night (Feb. 12). The Hall of Fame Knocks airs at 9 p.m. ET.
