The Louisville Cardinals will call 93.9 the Ville their new home. The station announced on Thursday morning that the stations will carry every Louisville game in every sport. The deal is a partnership with Salem’s 970 the Answer, which will simulcast the games.
Drew Deener made the announcement on his show. He noted that a lot of effort went into putting the deal together. He then joked that not much thought went into the announcement.
Under the terms of the new deal, 93.9 The Ville will carry Louisville football, baseball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. The station will also carry all current shoulder programming and launch a new coach’s show for the baseball team.
The University gets to have one place to send their fans to listen to games in every sport. Before, The Ville split Louisville play-by-play rights with iHeartMedia’s WHAS and WKRD. The new deal will start with the 2022 football season.
Deener noted that the station is dedicated to the Cardinals and the deal and that fans would hear every sport on the station no matter what.
“The only thing that will ever knock off a U of L broadcast is another U of L broadcast,” he joked.
