Former President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, launched Monday in the iOS App Store. Coincidentally, the iOS launch came on President’s Day.
Barrett News Media downloaded the app and was asked to verify the email address associated with the account. Once that was complete, we were placed on a virtual waiting list with Truth Social providing a “waitlist number.”
“Thank you for joining,” the message read. Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist. We love you, and you’re not just another number to us.”
Our number was 234,960.
What’s unclear is what the app will look like once it allows users on the platform. The effort to create Truth Social started shortly after Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube following the Jan 6 U.S. Capitol riots.
According to Reuters, Truth Social supports HTTPS, but it needs to be manually typed in at the beginning of the URL (although links pointing directly to the HTTPS version will result in a secure session).
Some users that we spoke to who used a Yahoo email address did not get an email confirmation back once they signed up. They did report receiving email confirmations back with GMAIL.
Truth Social was developed by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and is headed by former congressman Devin Nunes.
