The Michigan Association of Broadcasters has named Cumulus Media’s News/Talk WJR-AM/Detroit the Station of the Year in an announcement of its 2021 Broadcast Excellence Awards.
“It is a daily honor to watch this talented group of professionals create great radio and serve our city and state like no other station can. The recognition of their work is well deserved,” Operations Manager Mike Wheeler said.
WJR has won the MAB award for the fifth time in six years. Also, WJR was selected for 17 “Excellence” awards and 7 “Merit” awards. The MAB also singled out almost every part of WJR’s content offerings for praise, including on-air, commercial production, community involvement, news reports, specials, etc.
“Winning so many awards reflects the depth of talent on this all-star team. Winning Station of the Year is especially gratifying, as WJR celebrates our 100th Anniversary this year. We thank the MAB for this wonderful recognition,” Vice President/Market Manager Steve Finateri, said.
The MAB Broadcast Excellence Awards program is Michigan’s premiere broadcasting contest and awards show. Stations from across the state vie against a measure of excellence in several categories created to showcase the best content that Michigan broadcasters have to offer.
