Kevin Burkhardt will call the action on America’s Game of the Week in 2022. That doesn’t mean FOX has finalized its plans for the broadcast. Andrew Marchand writes that Greg Olsen is “a leading candidate” to join Burkhardt, but nothing is set.
FOX swung for the fences after it was clear Troy Aikman was headed for ESPN. The first choice to be the new analyst on the top broadcast team was Tom Brady. Obviously, he will be busy in Tampa again in 2022.
Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported in February that multiple networks immediately reached out to Brady after he announced his retirement in February. Considering Tom Brady was back on the Buccaneers’ roster within 40 days, it is a good thing no one was relying on him being in the booth.
Tom Brady could have commanded as much as $20 million per year to join a broadcast team according to someone McCarthy spoke with. It would be interesting to know if that played a role in him not agreeing to terms with any broadcaster, although if Tom Brady Sr. is to be believed, his son was bullied into retirement by the media. Maybe that means Brady wasn’t in the mood to listen in the first place.
All Marchand mentioned was that Olsen was a leading candidate, but was “not guaranteed the spot”. Tom Brady is off the table obviously. No other candidates were listed by Marchand.
