Baltimore/Washington D.C news/talk powerhouse radio stations WBAL and WTOP are among the finalists in several categories for large market stations in the 2021 Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association Contest.
The finalists were announced Tuesday, the winners will be crowned during the annual awards banquet on Saturday, June 4, at The Dunes Manor Hotel in Ocean City, Md.
The Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association said 27 news organizations in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia submitted 357 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories from 2021.
WTOP reporters John Domen and Mike Murillo are both up for “Best Reporter” while WBAL’s Robert Lang and WTOP’s Dimitri Sotis, are competing for “Best Radio News Anchor.”
Both stations are well represented in other categories including “Outstanding Website,” “Outstanding Newscast,” Outstanding Light Feature” and “Outstanding Enterprise Reporting.”
Other small marker stations receiving consideration include WFMD-AM, Frederick, MD and WDEL in Wilmington, DE.
WBAL and WTOP are vying for “Outstanding News Operation” in a large market. WFMD and WDEL are the two finalists representing that same category for small market stations.
