WBT Gearing Up to Celebrate its 100th Anniversary

WBT Charlotte’s News Talk is gearing to commemorate its centennial anniversary this weekend with some special events including a celebration at the Dale F. Halton Theater in Uptown Charlotte.

On Wednesday, the Radio One-owned station announced that city and county officials will proclaim Sunday, April 10, 2022, WBT Day in recognition of 100 years in broadcasting, the proclamation was signed by Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and other city officials.

WBT was the third radio station in the United States to receive a broadcasting license; the first in the Southeast.

“Recognition by the City and County of this unique milestone, and their proclamations of WBT Day means everything to the twenty-five team members of WBT, and to the over one hundred hard-working members of our extended Radio One Charlotte family,” said WBT Program Director Mike Schaefer.
