The head of Discovery Inc. is touring offices around the country as a massive merger draws near. According to Mediaite, CEO David Zaslav’s tour will include CNN’s Washington, D.C. bureau where he will reportedly meet with staff including anchors and reporters.
AT&T’s WarnerMedia unit recently announced a merger with Discovery. The merger consists of iconic brands such as HBO, CNN, TBS, TNT, and the Cartoon Network. The merger will allow AT&T to pay off some of its debt and move money around in an effort to expand its 5G network for its cellular service.
Zaslav’s visit to CNN’s Washington, D.C. bureau may yield some interesting conversations. The report states that a source said the attitude among the D.C. bureau was optimistic that the sit-down with Zaslav would go better than last month’s meeting with former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar.
Some of the notable names that Zaslav may have a chance to interact with when he visits the Washington D.C. office includes Jim Acosta, Dana Bash, Pamela Brown, Wolf Blitzer, Brianna Keilar, John King, and Jake Tapper.
The network is in a state of transition right now with the resignation and subsequent departure of former president Jeff Zucker and former marketing executive Allison Gollust.
In December, CNN fired Chris Cuomo for using his journalistic position in an attempt to manipulate the outcome of former New York Gov. Andrew’s Cuomo’s sexual misconduct allegations.
Furthermore, in May, the cable news channel will welcome Chris Licht, who takes over CNN Global as chairman and CEO.
