The sharing spirit is in the air right now for FOX and NBC. Fresh off of simulcasting the debut of the new USFL, the two networks are sharing a NASCAR analyst. Dale Earnhardt Jr has been added to FOX’s crew covering the Geico 500 at Talladega Super Speedway on Sunday.
FOX made the announcement on its coverage of Sunday Night’s dirt track race at Bristol. The network followed that up with a press release.
“His record – six wins at Talladega, and his reputation – a 15-time NMPA Most Popular Driver, make him the perfect fit for the assignment,” it read.
No one knows Talladega like the Earnhardt family. In addition to Dale Jr’s six wins at the track, it was his dad’s favorite as well. Dale Sr. won ten races there, more than anywhere else on the circuit. The final win of his career came at Talladega in October of 2020.
Dale Earnhardt Jr will join Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer in the booth. Larry McReynolds will provide analysis as well. Jamie Little, Regan Smith and Vince Welch will handle pit reporting duties.
Cooperation between FOX and NBC is nothing new when it comes to NASCAR. The two networks split the sport’s broadcast rights. FOX and FS1 will carry the first half of the season. NBC takes over the remainder of the schedule beginning with the Ally 400 in June in Nashville.
